Direct Payment
Many insurance plans have specific requirements that must be met before approving certain services, such as an MRI or a spine injection. These requirements can be both costly and time-consuming, often delaying patient care. For example, some Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) plans require 12 sessions or six weeks of physical therapy before pre-authorizing a spine MRI or injection. This can be challenging to complete within a reasonable timeframe, especially for those experiencing severe acute pain from conditions like lumbar disc herniation or cervical radiculopathy. In such cases, patients may consider opting to pay out of pocket for timely treatment or imaging, bypassing insurance delays.
